Construction of Pilecap to Pier Head and Other Associated Works for Penang LRT Mutiara Line
30 November 2025Project
Overview
Construction of Carrefour Bridge, Seberang Jaya, Penang
Ongoing
TPJ Engineering Sdn. Bhd. has been appointed by Carta Indah Sdn. Bhd. for the bridge-related works within the Cadangan Pembinaan Jalan 100 Kaki di Belakang Carefour, Seberang Jaya, Mukim 4, Seberang Perai Tengah (Pakej 1) tender.
Known locally as Jambatan Jalan Perdana, the existing crossing carries Jalan Perdana across Sungai Derhaka immediately south of its junction with Jalan Carrefour, linking Seberang Jaya and Permatang Pauh. The new bridge will further improve traffic flow by complementing the new road works and completing that connection.
The project scope covers a 37-metre I-beam concrete bridge, retaining-wall structures and an 80-metre permanent concrete sheet-pile system along the riverside. These works form part of the road infrastructure project behind Carrefour (currently AEON BiG) in Seberang Jaya, Penang.
A temporary Bailey bridge was constructed to maintain access and traffic movement during the transition to the permanent bridge works.
Scope of Project
Construction of a temporary Bailey bridge
A temporary Bailey bridge measuring 40 metres long and 9 metres wide was constructed to maintain access and traffic movement during the transition to the permanent bridge works. This enabling stage supports the transition from the existing crossing to the permanent bridge works.
This temporary bridge is a key component of the project, providing an alternative crossing arrangement before removal of the existing bridge. Its installation is coordinated within the restricted riverside worksite, alongside the existing crossing, site access and construction activity
Demolition and removal of the existing bridge
Once the temporary crossing arrangement has been established, the existing bridge is scheduled for demolition and removal. These works prepare the site for the permanent replacement and require coordination of demolition activity, equipment, materials and the available site access.
Construction of retaining walls
Retaining-wall works form part of the civil infrastructure delivered alongside the permanent bridge and riverside works. Their construction is coordinated with the sheet-pile system, bridge works and site-access arrangements, where sequencing is essential within the restricted riverside setting.
Construction of a 37-metre I-beam bridge
The 37-metre I-beam concrete bridge is the principal permanent structure within TPJ Engineering's bridge package. Its construction is coordinated with the temporary crossing arrangement, removal of the existing bridge, retaining-wall works and riverside works.
Construction of an 80-metre permanent concrete sheet-pile system
An 80-metre permanent concrete sheet-pile system forms part of the riverside civil works associated with the new bridge. It is constructed along the river edge as a permanent component of the connected bridge, retaining-wall and riverside works within the confined project area.
