Penang

Sungai Pinang is a vital asset to Penang, serving as a key connection between the interior of the island and the sea. Historically, it was essential for Malay fishermen in the 18th century and provided a resting point for traders arriving through the Penang Straits. Today, the river remains crucial to the livelihoods of inshore fishermen, who rely on it daily. The objective of this project is to ensure the sustainability of the river for both current and future generations, while mitigating the risk of flooding. In response, the government has initiated the construction of a retention pond near the river to safeguard the area from potential flood risks.

Penang

Penang Island, a coastal state, is inherently vulnerable to the risks of tsunamis and flooding. The region has experienced significant flooding and tsunami events in the past. In an effort to mitigate these risks and prevent future occurrences, the government has initiated a comprehensive upgrade of the drainage system, with a particular focus on the drainage network along Jalan Transfer, which runs directly from the city to the sea.
