Overview

Structural Rehabilitation, Repair, and Strengthening of Berth at Prai Bulk Cargo Terminal

Completed

Penang Island is renowned for its pivotal role in import and export trade, both locally and internationally. With ships docking daily from across the globe, the port is essential to the global economy. As the trading sector continues to expand, Penang Port has proactively undertaken initiatives to enhance and strengthen its infrastructure to accommodate a larger volume of ships and boost productivity.

We have been privileged to collaborate with Penang Port on its expansion project, which included the reconstruction of the deck slab to increase its capacity from 24 kN/m² to 38.5 kN/m², along with structural repairs and strengthening of two link bridges that connect the docks to the main hub.

The project required meticulous coordination, as the terminal remained fully operational throughout the construction period. With ships docking daily, the project involved significant risks, necessitating rigorous management practices. Continuous communication between the terminal operator and our team ensured that both construction activities and port operations ran smoothly without disruption.

This expansion will enable Penang Port to operate on a larger scale, accommodating more ships with heavier loads. It is also poised to attract additional shipping traffic, as the enhanced infrastructure strengthens the port's competitive edge. Plans for further expansion will likely position Penang Port as a more attractive destination compared to other ports in the region.
